At Santa Margarita Catholic High School, our commitment to providing a world-class education extends into the digital realm. As a designated Microsoft Showcase School, we are part of an exclusive global community recognized for our innovative use of technology to drive student success and prepare our Eagles for the future.

Central to this ecosystem is our reliance on Microsoft OneDrive as our primary and official cloud storage solution.

The Power of One Platform

Being a Showcase School isn’t just a title—it’s a philosophy. By standardizing on Microsoft 365, we ensure that every student and faculty member has access to a seamless, integrated suite of tools.

Why OneDrive?

  • Security & Compliance: Our IT Department maintains strict security protocols to protect student data and privacy.

  • Seamless Integration: Your files move effortlessly between Teams, OneNote, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Consistency: Every device on campus is optimized for the Microsoft environment, ensuring your work looks and functions exactly as intended.

Security First: Policies on Third-Party Storage

To maintain the integrity of our network and the safety of our digital community, the SMCHS IT Department enforces a policy where Google Drive and other third-party cloud services are blocked on the school network and school-issued devices.

We understand that you may use other services like Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud on your personal devices. However, please be aware of the following:

  1. No Network Exceptions: We will not open blocks or create “holes” in our firewall to allow the transfer of files from third-party services to OneDrive while you are on the SMCHS network or using a school device.

  2. The “Personal Device” Solution: If you have files on a personal Google Drive that you need for school, you should log in to your OneDrive on your personal device at home. Upload your files there, and they will be instantly available on your SMCHS device when you get to campus.

  3. Responsibility: It is the student’s responsibility to manage their file migrations outside of the school’s restricted network.

Limited Exceptions for Special Events

We recognize that SMCHS is a hub for community and competition. For major school events—such as Model United Nations (MUN)—where students from other schools are in attendance, the IT Department may temporarily grant access to Google Drive.

  • Pre-Approved Only: These exceptions are only for scheduled, school-sanctioned programs.

  • Strict Window: Access is opened only for the duration of the event and will be locked back down immediately following the conclusion of the program.

Looking Forward

By focusing our resources on the Microsoft ecosystem, we provide a stable, secure, and professional environment that mirrors the systems used by top universities and Fortune 500 companies. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our network secure and our focus on academic excellence!

Go Eagles!
