Seniors,

Congratulations on reaching the finish line, Seniors! As we wrap up our final weeks at SMCHS, it is time to handle the transition of your school-owned tablet device. Please read the following details carefully to ensure a smooth checkout and to make sure you receive your diploma on time.

ALL SENIORS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THEIR DEVICE.

Our Lenovo devices each have embedded software on a chip on the motherboard for tracking and securing the devices. Any student who does not turn in the device by May 21st will have a lockout command sent, and the device will remain locked until returned to SMCHS.  IMPORTANT: Please go to the Tech Center and advise them if you are going to be taking a late final or marking up work and need to make arrangements to hold onto the device for a few days.

Buying Your Tablet

Many of you have asked about keeping your device for college. Here is how the pricing works:

  • Four-Year Students: If you have attended SMCHS for all four years and paid the technology fee each year, the tablet is yours for FREE ($0.00 USD)!
  • Other Students: If you have not paid all four years of tech fees, your purchase price is prorated based on how many years you attended SMCHS.
  • Important Note: These devices are reaching the end of their warranty and school software cycle. They cannot be used by any SMCHS students for the 2026-2027 school year

Preparing Your Device

Before you hand over your tablet, keep in mind that it will be returned to factory settings to comply with our licensing agreements.

  • Wiped Clean: You will receive the device back with full administrative rights, but all current data will be erased.
  • Back It Up: You are responsible for backing up your files to your Office 365 OneDrive or an external USB drive before turning it in. SMCHS is not responsible for any lost data.
  • Software Access: You will have access to your SMCHS Office 365 account until September 30, 2026. We recommend setting up your new college Microsoft account and reinstalling any personal apps or games before that date.

The Return Process (May 18–21)

All graduating students must return their tablets to the Tech Service Center after their last final exam.

  1. Drop-Off: Bring your device to the Tech Service Center during finals week.
  2. Payment: If you are purchasing your tablet (and didn’t qualify for the free 4-year rate), please complete the purchase process and present your receipt at the time of return.
  3. Pick-Up: Our goal is to have the refurbished devices ready for you to pick up starting June 17th.
  4. Deadline: Any devices not picked up by July 15th will be considered donated to the school.

What if I don’t want to keep the tablet?

If you choose not to purchase or keep the device, you are still required to return it to the Tech Service Center between May 18–21.

⚠️ Crucial: Students will not receive their diplomas until their devices are returned.

There is no charge for returning the tablet, provided there is no willful damage. Please ensure you turn it in on time so there are no delays in getting your diploma!

Good luck on your finals, and let’s get those devices turned in so we can celebrate at graduation!
